Goals of the Center
ViCAS offers space for deep, undisturbed research in one of Europe’s most stimulating cities. A year spent with fellows from diverse disciplines can be a transformative experience—both intellectually and personally.
The Center aims to:
- establish a dynamic space for international and interdisciplinary academic exchange, designed to inspire groundbreaking research approaches and innovative ideas;
- provide a stimulating intellectual environment for academics at all career stages, with specific opportunities for collaboration and mentorship for early-career researchers;
- promote the exchange of knowledge and ideas beyond academia.
Our Fellowship Programmes
Each year, ViCAS offers up to ten Senior Fellowships and multiple Early Career Fellowships to outstanding international scholars from all academic fields who pursue ambitious, curiosity-driven projects, including those that transcend disciplinary boundaries.

Early-Career Fellowships
The Vienna Center for Advanced Studies (ViCAS) invites applications for its Early-Career Fellowship Programme for the academic year 1 October 2026 to 30 June 2027.
Early-Career Fellowships are open to scholars who have completed their PhD within the past eight years and have shown evidence of outstanding academic achievement.
